Meaningful Giving

Your contribution helps fund critical research, provide support to patients and families, and raise awareness about kidney cancer.

Here’s how your contributions make an impact:

  • $10 funds one caregiver or patient to receive a care pack
  • $50 funds one patient registration for a patient education symposium.
  • $100 provides 50 newly diagnosed kidney cancer patients with an educational toolkit.
  • $250 provides one patient financial support during treatment
  • $1000 funds a week of maintaining a patient registry, fostering better research outcomes and patient care.
  • $1500 funds one week of research through our KCA Research Award Program

When you join one of our Giving Circles, you become an inspirational leader in the search for a cure for kidney cancer. 100% of your gift will support kidney cancer research and patient programs, so you never have to wonder about the true scope of your impact. Contact Kendall Monroe, Chief Advancement Officer, at [email protected] to learn more about becoming a member of one of the following esteemed groups.

The Cornerstones: Recurring Monthly Gifts

  • Join our Cornerstone Circle by becoming a monthly donor. By easily setting up your recurring gifts, you become part of the backbone of the KCA’s transformational work.
    • Example: $250 could sustain our mission on a monthly basis.

The Champions: $1,000+

  • Members of our Champions Circle join like-minded philanthropic leaders committed to finding a cure for kidney cancer. KCA Champions help support our core patient programs and drive progress through research.
    • Example: $1,200 can send one person to Washington DC to advocate for increased federal kidney cancer research funding.

The Innovators: $10,000+

  • KCA Innovators are dedicated to accelerating the development of new ideas. The Innovator Circle exemplifies a distinguished group of individuals and corporations that provide catalytic gifts to bring lifesaving therapies to patients faster.
    • Example: Your gift of $10,000 could fund 1 month of access to the KCA Data Federation, a technology platform that analyzes kidney cancer data for patterns and insights that advance patient care.

The President’s Circle: $100,000+

  • Inspired by Gretchen E. Vaughan, KCA’s President and CEO, members of The President’s Circle share her powerful vision to transform kidney cancer care as we know it. The President’s Circle members are visionaries who desire to advance science and improve lives through big and bold initiatives.
    • Example: $100,000 could fund a transformational research grant. A gift at this level could fund a KCA Focus award in a specific area of interest to the kidney cancer community.

Eugene P. Schonfeld Legacy Society

  • When Eugene P. Schonfeld, who was himself an advanced kidney cancer patient, formed the KCA in 1990, a diagnosis meant facing a limited future. Thanks to the tireless work of the KCA and a growing community of researchers and patient advocates over the past 3 decades, patients have a better chance of survival. However, there is still much to be done. While Mr. Schonfeld sadly died of kidney cancer, his legacy remains as strong as ever. Members of our Eugene P. Schonfeld Legacy Society have the foresight to include the KCA as part of their estate plans and join him in leaving a legacy that will touch the lives of countless others.
    • Example: You can create your own lasting legacy. By including a gift in your will or other estate plans, you could establish a legacy of supporting kidney cancer patients and their loved ones. Please let us know if we’re in your plans so we can honor your intentions when your gift is received.

Leave a lasting legacy through bequests, memorial and tribute gifts, or beneficiary designations. You can also create a lasting impact by naming awards, endowments, or projects in honor of yourself or loved ones, ensuring your values continue to inspire future generations.

You can begin your estate plans using a free tool through KCA’s partnership with FreeWill. Members of our community can use this online estate planning tool to write their legal will — at no personal cost. In just 20 minutes, you can create or update your legally‑binding will here.

If you’ve already created an estate plan and included a gift to the Kidney Cancer Association, please fill out this brief form to let us know of your generous support! We’d love to ensure your intentions are properly recorded and welcome you to the Eugene Schonfeld Legacy Society with a gift of appreciation.

When you give a memorial or tribute gift for the Kidney Cancer Association to honor someone special, you’re expressing your love, admiration, and gratitude in one of the most meaningful ways there is. Your gift will honor your loved one, create a lasting tribute, and provide needed resources and support to people affected by kidney cancer.

Should you choose to direct gifts to the Kidney Cancer Association through an obituary or in lieu of flowers, the following language is suggested:

“As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association in memory of [loved one] at PO Box 676226, Dallas, Texas 75267-6226 or by visiting www.kidneycancer.org.”

Charitable Bequests

You may be looking for a way to make a significant gift to help further our mission. A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust. It is the most popular and flexible way that you can support our cause.

Joe and Anna have been faithful supporters of our organization. They believe it is important to help further our mission.

Joe: Anna and I believe Kidney Cancer Association is truly helping others. It is important to us to partner with them to make a difference. That is why we have made several gifts over the years.

Anna: But we wanted to do more than just make gifts. Joe and I have been careful and have been able to save enough for retirement. We plan to be generous with family, but we also have the ability to be generous with charity.

Joe: After talking it over, we decided to leave a bequest in each of our wills. Our attorney took the simple language that Kendall Monroe provided and included a nice bequest in my will as well as Anna’s just using a percentage of our remaining assets. We are delighted that we will be helping others through these gifts.

Anna: We also did it in honor of our children, which will be a wonderful surprise as a way we’ve woven them into our legacy!

Beneficiary Designation – Life Insurance or Retirement

Beneficiary designation gifts may help your heirs avoid paying income tax on certain inherited assets and may help your estate avoid estate taxes.

Creating a bequest of life insurance is an easy gift to establish just by changing the life insurance beneficiary.

Similarly, you can change the beneficiary if you own a qualified retirement plan, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b).

Hal passed away from kidney cancer a few years ago, and was passionate about the mission at the Kidney Cancer Association. Hal and his wife, Joanne, wanted to leave a legacy and create more research opportunities.

When Joanne met with her attorney, she explained her goals and described her assets. She’d inherited Hal’s IRA, which when combined with her own, would provide her with the necessary retirement security she needed. She even had enough to allow her to take regular vacations and splurge on gifts for the grandkids!

Joanne: I had originally thought about leaving my IRA to our kids and other assets to charity. My attorney suggested a different strategy and told me that an IRA is a great gift to leave to charity. He explained that if my kids inherited the IRA, my estate would pay estate taxes and my kids would pay income tax on the IRA. But, by giving the IRA to charity and other assets to my kids, the kids will still receive a nice inheritance, and we avoid income and estate taxes entirely!

Raise awareness and funds to benefit the Kidney Cancer Association through an individual or group event, by hosting an awareness event with family and friends, or by working with your medical and clinical community to host an educational event. Click here to learn more!

You can initiate a grant recommendation from your donor-advised fund or DAF using the link below. Simply start typing in your fund provider name and the system will prompt you through the process.

You can transfer funds from your IRA directly to the Kidney Cancer Association. This is an effective way to have an immediate impact and ensure our work of leading change through advocacy, research, and education. Here’s how it works:

  • You must be 70 ½ or older.
  • An individual may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year and a married couple may give up to $200,000.
  • Your gift must be transferred directly from the IRA account to the KCA.
  • Your gift is a transfer of funds from your IRA to the KCA, so it does not create taxable income for you and is not considered a charitable tax deduction.
  • If you are 73 and older, the transfer of funds counts towards your annual Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA.

Did you know you could double or even triple your impact? Many corporations have matching gift programs and match their employees’ charitable contributions. Contact your employer’s Human Resources Department to learn if your company has a matching gift program and to obtain the appropriate form. Include your company’s completed matching gift form with your gift or mail it in after your gift is made through our donation page. For questions, please contact Kendall Monroe, Chief Advancement Officer at [email protected].
