This is a guest post by Christopher Wood, Jr, son of the KCA’s late Board Chair and friend, Dr. Christopher G. Wood, a world-renown urology surgeon at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Follow Chris’s “Journey to 30” as he aims to raise $30,000 by his 30th birthday on September 14th for the KCA’s Dr. Christopher G. Wood Endowment.

As I approach my 30th birthday, I can’t help but reflect on the impact my father, Christopher G Wood MD, has had on my life. He was not only a dedicated physician who gave his all to his patients, but also a loving father who supported me in everything I did. His legacy of compassion, dedication, and excellence has inspired me to give back in a meaningful way.

My wife and I decided to organize a fundraiser for my father’s Endowment, which supports the fight against kidney cancer. This cause is close to my heart, as my father dedicated his career to treating patients with this disease. By contributing to his Endowment, we can ensure that his legacy lives on and continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

One of my father’s core beliefs was that “Your success is my success.” He was always there to support and mentor his colleagues and mentees, and he took great pride in their achievements. The Endowment we are fundraising for will continue this legacy by funding two merit awards and a grant to support the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Every day, I strive to live up to my father’s example and make him proud. Celebrating my 30th birthday this September by supporting his Endowment is a meaningful way for me to honor his memory and continue his work. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the man who gave me everything, and I hope that this fundraiser will make a difference in the fight against kidney cancer.

As I embark on this new chapter in my life, I am grateful for the lessons and values my father instilled in me. I am proud to carry on his legacy and support his Endowment and the Kidney Cancer Association, knowing that I am making a positive impact in his honor. Happy 30th birthday to me, and here’s to many more years of honoring my father’s memory and helping others in need.
