Kidney Cancer Unfiltered: Navigating Kidney Cancer While Pregnant with Heather Williams
In season 2, episode 8 of Kidney Cancer Unfiltered, host Annamaria Scaccia sat down with Heather Williams, who was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer just days before learning she was pregnant. Heather shared her incredible journey of navigating aggressive treatment for renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) while protecting her unborn child.
With unwavering support from her husband, family, and medical team, Heather underwent nine rounds of chemotherapy during pregnancy. Her daughter was born premature but healthy, and Heather persevered through radiation and additional treatment.
Heather reflected on the difficult decisions she faced — balancing treatment and motherhood — and the emotional highs and lows of her experience. She highlighted the importance of support systems, the power of connection with survivors, and her hopes to advocate for RMC awareness in the future.
