Spotlight: Dr. Ronald M. Bukowski of the KCA's Board of Directors

Dr. Ronald M. Bukowski has been a member of the KCA’s Board of Directors and the KCA’s Medical Steering committee since the organization’s inception. He currently works as the director of Bukowski Consulting, LLC, and is a member of the Emeritus Staff of the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center.

We spoke with Dr. Bukowski about serving on the Board and his work in medicine.

What motivated you to get involved with the Kidney Cancer Association?
I am a medical oncologist who specialized in treating patients with genitourinary cancers. I joined the KCA & Medical Steering Committee in 1990 at a time when our knowledge and treatments for RCC were evolving and consisted primarily of IFN and IL-2 for advanced disease. An interest in the disease, research, and patient care were responsible.

Length of time on the Board or working with the KCA?
I have been a member since 1990, therefore, 2020 will be my 30^th year with the organization.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?
I currently spend my travel time in Florida, at a home I have in Bonita Springs. Other than this, I enjoy traveling to a variety of fishing destinations.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy golfing and all types of fishing.

What is one thing most people do not know about you?
I retired from the Cleveland Clinic and patient care in 2008, but have continued to be active in the areas of clinical research and new drug development with my current company, Bukowski Consulting LLC.

What prompted/inspired you to go into the medical field?
I graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1969 – my decision to enter medicine was made during my undergraduate days, also at Northwestern. At that time, a career in science and medicine attracted me.
