Event Highlights – My favorite part of the event was connecting with friends and telling my story. Three days before the event, Fox 13 News Seattle featured my story and our KCA Challenge event in a news segment, which helped generate additional awareness and attendance. One couple came who had never heard of the KCA but they learned about the the event from the news segment. Also, we were very close to reaching our fundraising goal – donations are still coming in!
What advice do you have for other event captains? – Give yourself plenty of time to promote the event and build awareness. I began promoting the event about a month in advance with outreach including posts on my personal LinkedIn, sharing with community organizations I’m involved in, and spreading the word through former coworkers, friends, and family. It’s also to have printed signs with QR codes available throughout the event so attendees can easily donate on the spot. Small details like that can make a big difference in participation and fundraising.
