This is a guest post from Dr. Bradley C. Leibovich, immediate past Chair of the Kidney Cancer Association’s Board of Directors. Dr. Leibovich is the David C. Utz, M.D., Professor of Urology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, a consultant in the Department of Urology at Mayo Clinic, and serves as the Medical Director of the Center for Digital Health. Dr. Leibovich, who became Chair in 2021, will remain on the board as Transitioning Chair Emeritus for the next year.

As I conclude my term as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Kidney Cancer Association, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the opportunity to serve this extraordinary organization. It has been an honor to work alongside so many dedicated KCA staff, clinicians, researchers, patients, caregivers, advocates, and industry partners who share a single, unwavering mission: improving the lives of those affected by kidney cancer and ultimately eliminating this disease.

During these past years, the KCA has continued to expand its reach, accelerating research, enhancing mentoring for budding kidney cancer warriors, amplifying our voice in advocacy, and building innovative programs that directly support patients and families. The KCA has remained at the forefront of shaping the future of kidney cancer care under the leadership of Gretchen E. Vaughan and her team and supported by a passionate and committed community that believes deeply in our purpose.

I was personally pleased to participate in countless initiatives during my involvement with the KCA, including a kidney cancer myth-busting social media series (Fact or Fiction?), a number of speaking opportunities at the KCA’s flagship International Kidney Cancer Symposiums, and, coming up next January, I’m excited to moderate a virtual patient education event – a new collaboration between the KCA and Mayo Clinic.

I am delighted that Dr. Eric Singer will assume the role of Chair of the Board. Eric is a remarkable physician, a respected leader, and a steadfast advocate for patients. His vision, integrity, and energy make him exceptionally well suited to guide the KCA through its next chapter of growth and impact. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the organization will continue to strengthen its standing as a global catalyst for innovation, support, and hope.

I remain profoundly grateful for the trust placed in me during my tenure and for the privilege of contributing to the mission of the KCA. I look forward to supporting Eric and the entire Board as the organization continues its critical work on behalf of the kidney cancer community.
