Joshuah Bledsoe

Joshuah Bledsoe, a football player at the University of Missouri and an NFL draft favorite for the 2021 season, turned his attention to kidney cancer this month in order to raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects his family personally.

Bledsoe’s aunt was diagnosed with stage IV renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of kidney cancer, in 2014.

“My Aunt Gwenette has always been influential in my life,” Bledsoe said. “She encouraged me in church, school, and athletics. When she was diagnosed, her attitude never wavered. She battled six years after her diagnosis. She lived longer than the doctors expected. She had that never give up spirit. I carry that with me today. I know she’s with me on my journey to the NFL.”

Bledsoe plans to raise $3,000 by March 30th through his campaign “Joshuah Bledsoe Against Kidney Cancer”. The proceeds will benefit the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA), a global organization that provides support and services to people impacted by kidney cancer as well as research grants for scientific innovations that will drive progress in care and treatment.

“Through this campaign, I’d like to encourage those suffering from kidney cancer to never give up,” Bledsoe said. “I also want to encourage and support the physicians that are working to find a cure.”

March is Kidney Cancer Awareness Month and Bledsoe will be participating in the KCA’s Orange Up! campaign in support and celebration of the kidney cancer community during his Pro Day on April 12th ahead of the NFL Draft on April 29th – May 1st.
