What advice do you have for other event captains?
- Start early with promotion, sponsorship solicitation, and planning.
- Keep it familiar – choose something you are already involved in and potentially have a community to reach out to.
- Promote and don’t hesitate to keep promoting! Even if you think you’ve gotten the word out, keep going… there is always someone else to reach!
- Be creative. Think of businesses and organizations that may be interested in your event and could do some promotion on your behalf.
- Thank your supporters to encourage future funding – a personalized thank you card to sponsors, KCA swag, or a special gift to your top donor.
What were the event highlights?
Family support! Our largest donor was related to my husband and myself. The group who traveled the furthest to attend were also related to us. We were able to share the joy of birding with our loved ones and enjoy quality time with family and friends while raising awareness for the KCA, which we depend on so much.
Also, Raising $7,993!! Knowing that these funds are going towards kidney cancer research and a cure for my husband’s cancer – there is nothing more important to me than this.
Finally, Corropolese tomato pie donated from a legendary local bakery and my homemade friendship awareness bracelets were an unexpected hit!
