“Dr. Singer has a track record of collaboration and leadership with the KCA,” said Gretchen E. Vaughan, KCA’s President and CEO. “He has helped shape our scientific meetings, been a driving force through the launch and growth of the KCA Mentorship Academy to support the next generation of researchers and clinicians, and involved his community at OSU to co-host an incredible patient education meeting with us. Just as the KCA connects people with opportunities for support and education, Dr. Singer is a natural connector, too, and is also an incredibly caring person. I’m excited to have his leadership to accelerate our work to improve lives for everyone impacted by kidney cancer.”

“It is a tremendous honor to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the KCA,” Dr. Singer said. “The organization plays critical roles in patient advocacy and education, mentoring the rising stars in urologic and genitourinary oncology, and supporting our brightest investigators with research grants. As a surgeon dedicated to fighting kidney cancer, it is both humbling and exciting to follow in the footsteps of the KCA’s past Chairs, Dr. Chris Wood of MD Anderson Cancer Center and Dr. Bradley Leibovich of the Mayo Clinic, both luminaries in the field. I hope to provide the same wise counsel and unwavering commitment to advancing the mission of the KCA as they did.”

Dr. Singer succeeds Dr. Bradley C. Leibovich of the Mayo Clinic as Chair. Dr. Leibovich, who served as Chair of the Board of Directors since 2021, will become Transitioning Chair Emeritus for the coming year.

“I am delighted that Dr. Singer will assume the role of Chair of the Board,” Leibovich said. “Eric is a remarkable physician, a respected leader, and a steadfast advocate for patients. His vision, integrity and energy make him exceptionally well suited to guide the KCA through its next chapter of growth and continue to strengthen its standing as a global catalyst for innovation, support, and hope. I remain profoundly grateful for the trust placed in me during my tenure and for the privilege of contributing to the KCA’s mission: improving the lives of those affected by kidney cancer and ultimately eliminating this disease.”

Dr. Singer is the Dave Lonaberger Endowed Chair in Urology, Professor of Urology and Bioethics, Chief of the Division of Urologic Oncology, and Director of the Urologic Oncology Fellowship at The Ohio State University (OSU) Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus Ohio. He has served three times on the Scientific Planning Committee for the KCA’s flagship International Kidney Cancer Symposiums and will remain a member of the KCA’s Medical Steering Committee, on which he has served since 2022, providing strategic guidance for the KCA’s scientific and education initiatives.

A renowned expert in urologic surgery who presents often at cancer conferences around the world, Dr. Singer’s research is focused on developing new treatments for patients with genitourinary malignancies through clinical trials. His interest in bioethics include consent and capacity, research ethics, surgical innovation, and surgical ethics.
