Shelley Robson is a member of the KCA’s Board of Directors and currently works as the Senior Director of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

We spoke with Shelley about what motivated her to join our Board of Directors.

What motivated you to get involved with the Kidney Cancer Association?
I have worked closely with both Gretchen and Kendall over the years and have immense respect for both of them.  When Gretchen asked me to get involved,  I was delighted to do so.  Cancer has affected my family and being part of something that can help others in their journey was an easy decision.

How long have you worked with the KCA?
Almost a year.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?
It is hard to narrow it down to just one as I love to travel and experience different cultures.  Ultimately, I love to go home to England.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my family. My seven-year-old, Zoe, keeps us all on our toes as each day is a new adventure.

What is one thing most people do not know about you?
I was born in Newcastle, England moved from there to Zambia then back to England then to Holland then Brunei and finally settling in Texas. Wanderlust started at a very young age!

What prompted/inspired you to go into the medical field?
I have always been fascinated by the medical field.  I started my career in fundraising in international development – then my mother got cancer.  This prompted me moving my focus to healthcare. Being able to raise money for research that may ultimately cure cancer is incredibly rewarding.  Each day I learn something new from the faculty that I work with and the patients I am able to meet.
