We spoke with Noah about what motivated him to join our Board of Directors.

What motivated you to get involved with the Kidney Cancer Association?
I had not heard of kidney cancer or known anyone affected by the disease until my mother received a stage IV diagnosis when she was in her late fifties.  Like many patients, survivors and families impacted by kidney cancer, upon hearing the diagnosis, my family and I tried to learn as much as we could about the disease, treatments, care and support.  The KCA was an important resource for us while my mom battled her cancer over 14 months.  Shortly after losing my mom, while receiving my MBA at Northwestern University, I was given the opportunity to volunteer with the KCA through the Kellogg Board Fellows, a program that pairs students with non profit boards.  After completing my project, I was asked to remain on the Board full time – for which I am incredibly grateful.

How long have you worked with the KCA?
I served as an ex officio board member of the KCA in 2014 and then came on full time in 2015.  I’ve served as the Board’s treasurer for the past two years.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?
Lofoten, Norway (an archipelago near the Arctic Circle).  The scenery is stunning, the people are amazing, and it has incredible hiking with almost 24 hours of sunlight in the summer.

What do you like to do in your free time?
When we’re not doing tummy time with our 4-month old daughter or coffee runs out to the nearest neighborhood spot, my wife and I love taking advantage of the Bay Area’s outdoors – trail running, biking, or strolling through Golden Gate Park.

What is one thing most people do not know about you?
Earlier in my career, I spent over four year years working throughout the Middle East – mostly in Iraq and Afghanistan.
