What motivated you to get involved with the KCA?

I was unaware of the KCA until I was presented with the opportunity to join in the spring of 2021. I have worked in Radiation Oncology for over ten years with the majority of the time with patients with genitourinary cancers. I felt this was a unique opportunity to expand my knowledge of kidney cancer and learn from others outside of my institution.

What inspired you to go into the medical field?

From a young age I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field. I was fortunate to be able to participate in multiple medical mission trips while I was in high school. After college I started working at Mayo Clinic in the Cytopathology lab. I realized how much I missed working with patients and went back to school to obtain my RN degree.

What is meaningful about being a nurse?

I worked in inpatient pediatrics and was constantly inspired and amazed by these little warriors, especially those battling cancer. I changed roles to Radiation Oncology and continue to be inspired my patients. I love being able to spend time with my patients over the weeks while they are going through treatment and not only help them manage their side effects but learn about their lives. Being able to build a meaning rapport with patients is my favorite thing about being a nurse.

What is your favorite travel destination?

My favorite travel destination so far has been Kauai, Hawaii. My husband and I took a wonderful Hawaiian cruise for our anniversary a few years ago-the scenery of this island is just incredible especially the Na Pali Coast.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a mom to 6-year-old twin boys so I don’t have much free time but the time I do have I love to spend time with my boys and husband. I also enjoy reading, spending time at our family cabin and traveling when able.
