Jan Jackson, RN is a member of the KCA’s Clinical Advisory Board and currently works at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

We spoke to Jan about her work in the KCA and in medicine.

How long have you been working with the KCA and what motivated you to get involved?

I joined the KCA nursing board (now the Clinical Advisory Board) approximately 6 years ago. After attending the annual KCA conferences and nurses meeting I was recruited by Laura Woods. I thought this would be a great opportunity to continue educating our kidney cancer patients.

What prompted/inspired you to go into the medical field?

As far back as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. I’ve been in the medical profession, since I was 16 years old.

What is meaningful about your role as a healthcare professional?

Meeting my patients and their families and providing them the best opportunity for the best overall care is meaningful. I also enjoyed working with Dr. Christopher Wood for 25 years.

What is your favorite travel destination and why?

My favorite places to travel are to Spain and Amsterdam. I enjoy meeting people and learning about the different cultures. I grew up in the military and traveled to many countries. Living in different countries is a lot different than just visiting.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy running, listening to podcasts, and hanging out with my family.
