Read MoreIn the Season 2 premiere of Kidney Cancer Unfiltered, host Annamaria Scaccia sat down with Alexandra Sanders and her family, who shared their journey through pediatric kidney cancer; detailing the Sanders’ experience, starting with young Dre’s sudden diagnosis at just four years old. His mother, who goes by Alex and is an an oncology nurse, described how abdominal pain and vomiting — initially believed to be a stomach virus — led to the discovery of a kidney tumor during emergency surgery. Dre was later diagnosed with stage 4 Wilms tumor, a form of pediatric kidney cancer.
Throughout the episode, Alex highlighted the stark differences between pediatric and adult kidney cancer treatments. She explained how chemotherapy and radiation are central to treating Wilms tumors and shared her experiences navigating the emotional, financial, and physical toll on their family. Dre’s resilience shone through as he described his treatment, the challenges of being in the hospital, and how music, family, and faith helped him.
Now cancer-free for four years, Dre has big dreams for the future: becoming a Hall of Fame quarterback, helping children in hospitals, and bringing joy to others during difficult times.
