Dr. Daniel George, Duke Cancer Institute

The Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) is pleased to announce Dr. Daniel George, a medical oncologist at the Duke Cancer Institute, is the new Chair of the KCA’s Medical Steering Committee (MSC).

George will serve a 3-year term on the MSC, which provides strategic guidance on the KCA’s medical education activities and medical expertise for the KCA’s patient education programs and literature.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and work with some of the very best kidney cancer experts there are in my fellow MSC members,” George said. “Kidney cancer patients have so many more options for treatment and care now than they did when I began practicing. I hope to bolster the KCA’s educational resources and connect with the others in the kidney cancer community to bring the KCA’s ambitious research goals to fruition.”

George succeeds Dr. Bradley Leibovich, a urologist at the Mayo Clinic, who recently completed his term as MSC Chair. George will also join the KCA’s Board of Directors as the MSC representative.

“We’re thrilled to have Dr. George join us as MSC Chair,” said Gretchen E. Vaughan, KCA’s President and CEO. “With initiatives like the KCA Data Federation, the KCA has big plans to take kidney cancer research into a new era. We’re poised for success with our brilliant MSC, now led by Dr. George, whose enthusiasm and expertise will be a tremendous asset to the KCA and to the wider kidney cancer community.”

George specializes in caring for patients with urologic cancers, including kidney cancer. His clinical research focuses on developing therapy and improving care and outcomes for people with urologic cancers. George has been a frequent speaker at the KCA’s International Kidney Cancer Symposium meetings and is a past recipient of a KCA research award for work on targeted renal cell carcinoma therapy. He completed his medical training at the Duke University School of Medicine with residency and a fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. George is currently Professor Medicine, Professor in Surgery, and member of the Duke Cancer Institute at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina.
