On October 24, 2008 I had the pleasure of attending the First Russian Kidney Cancer Patient Seminar in Moscow. The Kidney Cancer Association co-sponsored this event, organized by our friends at the Kidney Cancer Research Bureau (KCRB), headed by Dr. Ilya Tsimafeyeu, M.D., a member of the Association’s Medical Advisory Board. Nearly 100 patients, caregivers, and medical professionals attended the one-day conference which provided a variety of information on kidney cancer. The agenda ranged in topics from surgical treatment, therapy options, basic facts on the disease, clinical trials, and living with kidney cancer. I had the wonderful opportunity of opening the meeting, where I explained what the Kidney Cancer Association does for patients and their families. I also explained the importance of collaborating to build a global community to fight this disease.
The meeting was well-received by all those who attended and the KCRB is already planning the Second Annual Seminar that will feature an additional day especially for medical professionals. The conference is scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
