Affiliation Policy

The Kidney Cancer Association welcomes collaboration with accredited voluntary health organizations that have a kidney cancer-specific focus and that meet specific requirements. To be considered as a collaborator recognized by the Association, an organization should first review the following eligibility guidelines:

1) The organization shall have been incorporated and operating for at least fifteen years as a tax-exempt charity (or equivalent, if located outside the US)

2) For the most recent ten years, the organization shall have employed a paid professional staff and a volunteer governing board of at least ten members

3) The organization shall have a medical and scientific advisory board consisting of at least 30 internationally recognized members

4) The organization shall have annual gross revenue that exceeds US $1.25-million in at least three consecutive years in the past five years

5) The organization shall have been accredited for at least five consecutive years by at least two national and/or international accrediting agencies (such as National Health Council, Independent Charities of America, and/or Health on the Net Foundation). Note that adherence to a voluntary code of conduct is not an acceptable alternative to accreditation, a process through which the organization submits to an independent evaluation.

6) The organization, if a US charity, shall have been awarded, for at least three consecutive years in the past five years, a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator

We believe this policy serves to foster durable collaborations that will provide stability, sustainability, and the possibility of substantial benefit to patients, researchers, and medical professionals. This policy is implemented by our staff.
